I do love Shanghai, I really do … every time I go there, it feels as if I am returning to a place that I have lived in for many years.

For some reason Shanghai feels as if I have always know it, like a good friend you have known since kindergarten or your favourite food. Anyway, was in Shanghai again last weekend with a friend, which was very cool. Got to discover several new places and revisit old ones, that in summer, are a lot more fun than in winter. In summer, Shanghai comes to life with cute little restaurants and bars located in the most exquisite old and sometimes historic Shanghai villas in the French quarter, sees the street life come alive and allows you to sit outside on rooftop terraces all night long, whilst the temperature never drops. Grandiose. And guess what … there are plenty of sleeping Chinese around too … just to prove it, here, a small selection varying in time of the day and importance of office held. Credit here to Dr. Thorsten’s artistic talent. He took the pictures.

And to add to all the laughter and joy, here a picture which, so far, beats all ‘chinglish’ mistranslations and funny names that I have so far encountered in China. Were walking along Huai Hai Lu after a delicious breakfast at Element Fresh on the rooftop terrace of a rather tall office building overlooking Shanghai, when we spotted this sign … don’t want to be around when someone actually takes it literally … worst of all, the sign was in the middle of a cordoned off area by the side of the street. Hilarious!
