Had the privilege to get a free ticket to see the Shanghai Expo yesterday. after reading about it on various other blogs and several hours of watching the Expo tv channel in hotels in Shanghai, I could not resist but to see it for myself. Summary of the day: it well worth it if you have a free ticket and a spare day, but don’t expect to see much from the inside … too many long queues and too much to see.

In the spirit of academically sound research (and trust me … this is rigorous research indeed; in fact we should get funded for this) and therefore the necessity for a well balanced argument, I must note that although Chinese signs are always a great source of amusement and hence provide hours of laughter … we (i.e. those who should know better) don’t always get it right either.

我爱 上海 – wo ai Shanghai
Shanghai is so multifaceted that every time I go and spend time there, I discover new and exciting things; so before flying out to Frankfurt from Pudong for a new year break, I spent a long weekend in Shanghai.
Day 4 of our trip to the top of the world and we were on the road to Gyantse, one of the more pleasant towns around Tibet. Half way there we passed one of the holiest lakes in the area: Yamdrok-Tso.
and to get us going and acclimatised to ever higher altitudes, we were driven about 20 km outside of Lhasa to Drak Yerpa monastery, a mountain face littered with caves like a swiss cheese full of little Buddha statues and prayer and meditation rooms.Â
A very different Christmas or: my journey to the top of the world
As a result of not being able to go home over Christmas, a couple of friends of mine and I decided to set off on a rather different Christmas excursion to the top of the world: i.e. to the Himalayas; more precisely: Mount Everest Base Camp (5200 m).
