We are in an age where morality preachers tell us what to do and what not to do to save the planet. All of a sudden the UK government is lobbying its people to become more environmentally aware, buy UK produce to reduce food miles, plant trees to counterbalance CO2 emissions, use the car less and generally revert back to ‘the good life’. Now, there is nothing wrong with that, in fact it’s great, it’s just the condescension and hypocrisy that goes with it, when countries like Germany have been saying this stuff for two decades or more …
After a string of fairly lengthy posts, I thought I’d mix things up slightly and just post several of my latest pictures, documenting: the view from my office window at home during the day and in the evening – we had a particularly spectacular sun set the other day… my stint in the ‘good life’ (see my previous post here), the white garden, which was magnificent yesterday, whilst it was misty in the morning, and finally my new bee hive and my raspberry swiss roll, decorated with raspberries from the garden.
Having spent the last few weeks traveling, attending conferences, working on papers and answering student emails, I have found myself enjoying a bit of a holiday over the last few days. It wasn’t really planned and actually crept up on me rather unexpectedly: my work email is refusing to grant me access!
Over the last few months I have been documenting some of the flora on campus – and as the semester draws to a close, the floral display on campus is reaching its zenith. So last weekend I took a few hours off work to try and re-generate from my marking marathon and bring you some more of the sublime floral fireworks that are exploding all over campus.

Went to Tianyi Pavilion this morning – it is the oldest private library in existence in China and it’s right here in Ningbo!
The Master of the Nets Garden – Suzhou
On our second day in Suzhou we went to see the Master of the Nets Garden, as well as several temples.
