Spent last week at the Australia and New Zealand Academy of Marketing conference in Melbourne, which was great. Had not been back to Melbourne for ages and found that not much had changed but that I liked it a lot more than when I was first there. Discovered many nice restaurants, bars and cafes. Particularly enjoyed the many alley bars and small restaurants by the waterfront, which, due to it being summer down under, allowed for many a warm night outside by the water. Also discovered a nice rooftop bar with beautiful night views over the city.

The one bizarre thing though was the mixture of summer temperatures and Christmas songs in the background … not sure that it’s the most intuitive situation for a European used to white Christmases. Nevertheless, not put off by it, we spent a few nice hours by the beach over the weekend, enjoying the temperatures and the clear blue sky … oh and the nice food. How I miss the good food. Also in the spirit of strangeness … since I am so used to it from living in China … I found a funny sign by the beach: not sure what it’s meant to say – either ‘shared promenade’ or ‘scared promenade’: help! The giant penguin is chasing us down the promenade … aaahhhh … run! I think it’s the latter!
