Day two of our trip to the top of the world
Today we visited the Potala palace as well as another monastery. The palace is divided into the white and red palace and features some of the most amazing Buddha statues ever. Unfortunately pictures were not allowed inside, well you could pay extortionate prices to snap the odd interesting statue, but we opted against it. Instead, to give you an idea of what we saw and why it took us all morning walking through the different sections of the building, I’ve uploaded some pictures from a different site which we visited.
The wonderful creations at the front of the ‘altar’ are made of Yak butter and are renewed every year. Up close they looked like meticulously formed and painted icing sugar creations that must have taken days to produce. The intricacy, time and effort which people put into producing such wonders always astounds me .. I was fascinated.
