Airing clean laundry in public …
Despite all the signs pointing towards spring and a turn in weather, my last entry might have been a little preemptive.
It has got a little cold again*, the sun is out but the wind is chilly – this time last year it was nice and sunny, but most importantly warm … In spite of the polar temperatures, which have made me dig out my winder coat again, China still plays out its life on the streets … public parks, streets and courtyards are always in use for all sorts of mundane daily activities and despite the chill: business as usual: for example in Jing’An park women were doing their morning exercises: fan dancing and the cha cha cha – brilliant. I guess it keeps you warm.
Generally I am always amazed at how much life is lived on the streets here. Breakfast, lunch and dinner is consumed on the street corner whilst sat on plastic chairs with steaming hot food in woks in the vicinity, naps are taken on bamboo chairs outside the front door of houses and laundry is aired/dried in public … community feel or too much information?

Now I know what you are talking about….. The visit to see you in China was well worth it….love you Mampa
hi frauke. Good to see that you are showing your hessisch roots in the spelling of ‘winder’. I also liked your thoughts on brands in china. Guess there is no need for branding if government dictates what is produces and for whom. Even though china is changing guess the mindset is still tge same. Hope u had a lovely evening on your birthday after we spoke. We have to catch up soon. Niclas
